Aural Rehabilitation for cochlear implants

Aural (re) habilitation services are offered to help patients maximize their benefit and satisfaction with amplification. Aural rehabilitation refers to the process of connecting sound to meaning through listening.

Weekly aural (hearing) rehabilitation sessions are provided for both adults and children with hearing loss. The amount of therapy that is needed will depend on many factors including when hearing loss was diagnosed, amount of time with a hearing loss, and benefit from amplification. By attending an evaluation with an Aural Rehabilitation Specialist, a specific care plan can be developed to meet the goals you have set for yourself or for your child.

For the first few years after receiving a cochlear implant, children often benefit from receiving private therapy sessions focused on auditory training and speech-language development in addition to the services received from their schools. By having focused time to learn to listen, many children are better able to incorporate listening and talking as a primary way of communication.
