  • “Through the CPE program, I have learned to be sensitive to the needs of those who are struggling with an illness, crisis or difficulty. To represent God in times of sorrow, despair, pain and affliction. To offer a humble, respectful and caring presence. To be part of the patient’s journey.”  – Dynna, CPE studentHow to apply

Fairview's Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program, the second largest in the upper Midwest, is in its 52nd year of preparing persons for spiritual care ministries throughout Minnesota and beyond. We offer up to 14 units of CPE each year.

Our
mission is to foster experienced-based theological education that combines the practice of spiritual care with qualified supervision and peer group reflection.

Our
faculty members prepare students to work in parish, clinical settings and community settings addressing the spiritual needs of parishioners, patients, their families, staff and community members.

With a
variety of training options, our program help students of different faith traditions develop competency in the art and skills of pastoral care and empowers them to explore their own personal and spiritual histories and deepen their pastoral authority and identity.

Students engage in ministry alongside their CPE supervisor and Fairview chaplains in individual or group consultations.
