Fairview Phlebotomy Sponsorship Program

Fairview’s sponsorship programs are intended to fill critical vacancies within Fairview. If we don't anticipate vacancies to occur at the completion of the program, we can't offer the sponsorships. Any Fairview hospital that has open positions at the time the program is completed will hire graduates of the program.

At Fairview, the phlebotomist’s (lab care technician’s) primary responsibility is drawing blood from inpatients and/or outpatients. They're responsible for ensuring the quality of the specimen — including accurate labeling as well as safe and timely handling. They also enter orders and collection information into the computer. A successful phlebotomist at Fairview is one who has excellent phlebotomy skills, is customer focused and committed to service and teamwork. We also are looking for individuals who can work independently, enjoy challenge and learning and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Eligibility

Eligible candidates must:

  • Be a student in good standing in the phlebotomy program at St. Catherine University.
  • Be willing to accept a full-time position at Fairview within one month of graduation and commit to that position for one year.

Students are selected for the sponsorship based on an application and interview process. Students accepted for the sponsorship will complete their clinical rotations at a Fairview facility.

Sponsorship amount

The sponsorship is valued at $2,500 and is paid directly to the college to help cover tuition, book costs and other expenses.

Note: The sponsorship is considered a “loan” by the IRS and accrues simple interest at 6 percent. The loan and interest are considered “forgiven” after the work commitment is completed, and do not need to be paid back. However, at that point, according to IRS guidelines, both the loan and interest become taxable income and are taxed at the supplemental rate of 38.9 percent.

To apply

When the sponsorship program is being offered, you will find all the application materials here. Each applicant must submit the following application materials:

  • Fairview phlebotomy sponsorship application packet
  • Fairview Application for Employment (online)
  • Current résumé
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Transcripts (from previously completed college courses, if available, or high school/GED completion)
