Christopher Pensinger, MD, family physician at Fairview Elk River Clinic and regional information technology medical director for Fairview Northland Medical Center, is the recipient of a 2008 Bush Medical Fellowship. Pensinger sees evidence that improved medical care can come from the complete and appropriate implementation of a fully interoperable electronic health record. He plans to increase his technical and leadership skills through the fellowship by obtaining a master's degree in health informatics at the University of Minnesota. The Bush Foundation awards medical fellowships to physicians to sharpen their skills, change their career direction and improve the health of their communities. In memoriam
J. Andrew Green, MD,
family medicine, Fairview Lakeville Clinic, died May 19 after a courageous battle with cancer. Instrumental in opening the clinic in 2004, Andy treated his patients with great compassion. Memorial donations preferred to the Sierra Club or the Nature Conservancy.

Aviva Abosch, MD, neurosurgery, University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, was interviewed on KARE-11 May 20 about possible symptoms and treatment options for malignant brain tumors.

Michael Aylward, MD, internal medicine, University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, was featured in a Star Tribune article May 24 about the need for physicians to be able to quickly access patient medical records in an emergency.

Christopher Balgobin, MD, family practice, Fairview Cedar Ridge Clinic, was awarded Fairview Ridges Hospital Medical Staff Teamwork and Clinical Physician Excellence Award and a $500 cash prize May 8. He was recognized for building collaborative relationships with nursing and other staff and for providing excellent patient care.

Elizabeth Bangs, PA-C, joined Fairview Urgent Care, Highland Park in June.

Emily Borman-Shoap, MD, pediatrics, Fairview Children's Clinic, was interviewed on KARE-11 May 20 about cane sugar in infant formula.

Kristin Christiansen, MD, family medicine, University of Minnesota Physicians, received a 2008 Medical Bush Fellowship to improve clinical skills in sexual health and in the diagnosis and treatment of sexual dysfunction so as to provide a higher level of care to patients, better instruct students and reach out to a variety of faith communities about sexual intimacy in marriage.

Kristen Coulter, MD, family practice, joined Columbia Park Medical Group Columbia Heights Clinic in June.

Jennifer Eccles, former nurse manager, emergency

department; Mary Pukite, MD, obstetrics and gynecology; David Stolte, volunteer; and Bryan Trottier, MD, pediatrics, all at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, assisted a family whose van had been hit by a drunk driver and flipped on I-94. All four were off duty.

Jon Grant, MD, psychiatry, University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, was featured on KMSP-TV, Reuters and several publications in June regarding his research which found that the drug naltrexone decreased the urge to gamble.

Timothy Kinney, MD, gastroenterology, University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, was quoted in the Pioneer Press May 24 about potential benefits and controversies surrounding natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery.

Amy Klopp, CNS, joined Fairview Ridges Clinic in June.

Carol Manchester, MSN, APRN, University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, and Teresa Pearson, MS, RN, Fairview director of diabetes care, will present at the American Association of Diabetes Educators 2008 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, Aug. 6-9.

Jerry Molitor, MD, rheumatology, Fairview Maple Grove Medical Center, wrote an article in the May Minnesota Physician about diagnostic and management challenges of systemic sclerosis.

Julia Montejo, MD, allergy and immunology, Columbia Park Medical Group Fridley Clinic, was interviewed on KARE-11 May 20 about changes in asthma inhalers slated to take effect by the end of 2008.

Nikolay Nikolov, MD, internal medicine, joined Fairview Ridges Clinic in June.

Val Overton, NP, Fairview Eagan Clinic, presented at the June 5 Aligning Forces for Quality National Lunch, about how performance measurement and quality improvement affect patients' lives.

John Sherman, MD, orthopedic surgery, Fairview Southdale Hospital, received the award for Best Clinical Paper for 2008 from the Spine Arthroplasty Society for his paper on nucleus replacement using an in situ, cured, balloon-contained, injectable polyurethane device.

Nimi Singh, MD, pediatrics, Fairview Children's Clinic, appeared May 12 on WCCO-TV about the effect of herbal energy drinks on children's health.

John Trusheim, MD, neuro-oncology, University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, was interviewed on WCCO-TV May 21 about the frequency of malignant brain tumors and treatment options.

David Yehl, MD, internal medicine, Fairview Eagan Clinic, appeared on KMSP-TV June 9 speaking about how financial stress affects the body.
