Aaron Friedman, MD, joined the University of Minnesota as Ruben-Bentson Chair and professor of pediatrics, University of Minnesota Medical School and pediatrician-in-chief, University of Minnesota Children's Hospital, Fairview in March. Previously, he was the Sylvia Kay Hassenfeld Chair of Pediatrics at Brown Medical School and medical director of Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence, R.I. Friedman received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University, his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical School and completed his pediatric residency and pediatric nephrology fellowship training at the University of Wisconsin. Adam Locketz, MD, recently joined Midwest Spine Institute, part of Fairview Physician Associates. Locketz received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota and completed an internal medicine internship, physical medicine and rehabilitation residency, and anesthesia pain management fellowship at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation with subspecialty certification in pain medicine. Locketz will provide clinical assessment and treatment for adults and children with most types of spine pain and musculoskeletal problems. He also will work closely with spine surgeons to provide pain management techniques, as well as with patients to tailor non-operative rehabilitation treatment plans. Beverly Christie, RN, MS, PHN, Fairview system director of clinical knowledge, together with Kate Khair, Kingsley Lawrence, Regina Butler and Eadaoin O'Shea, published "Assessment of Treatment Practice Patterns for Severe Hemophilia A: A Global Nurse Perspective," in Acta Haematol 2008;119:115-123.

Denis Clohisy, MD, orthopedics, University of Minnesota Physicians, was quoted in the April Minnesota Medicine about a University of Minnesota task force investigating conflicts of interest related to drug company gifts and payments to physicians.

Jeffrey Dick, MD, orthopedic surgery, Fairview Southdale Hospital and Orthopaedic Consultants, PA, a Fairview Physician Associates practice, was featured on WCCO-TV March 17 about a new method of cervical disc replacement.

Marla Eisenberg, MD, pediatric and adolescent health, University of Minnesota Physicians, was quoted on Minnesota Public Radio March 18 about the fact that 90 percent of parents want schools to offer sex education classes.

Sandra Gordon-Kolb, MD, palliative care, University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, was quoted in the Minneapolis Star Tribune March 15 about palliative care's positive impact on people with chronic or terminal illness and their families.

                 

Christine Hendrickson, RN, director of infection control, University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, was interviewed live on WCCO radio April 13 about the ramifications of an ultra-clean environment.

Abhinav Humar, MD, transplant surgeon, University of Minnesota Physicians, was interviewed March 25 on KMSP-TV about a boy waiting for his third kidney transplant at University of Minnesota Children's Hospital, Fairview.

Mary Jo Kreitzer, PhD, RN, Center for Spirituality and Healing, was interviewed for a March 9 article in Parade, "Thoughts Can Heal Your Body." She also was quoted in the Minneapolis Star Tribune March 7 about the correlation between hospital design and wellness.

Mary Faith Marshall, MD, family practice, University of Minnesota Physicians, was quoted on Minnesota Public Radio March 11 about the PRACS Institute, a private pharmaceutical testing company, and the lack of government oversight for privately funded research.

Christopher Moertel, MD, pediatric hematologist and oncologist, University of Minnesota Physicians, was interviewed March 10 on KSTP-TV about a boy treated for a brain tumor at University of Minnesota Children's Hospital, Fairview.

William Payne, MD, surgery, University of Minnesota Physicians, was quoted March 10 in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about differences in complication rates between donors and recipients in living-donor liver transplants.

Nancy Raymond, MD, psychiatry, University of Minnesota Physicians, wrote two letters to the editor that appeared in the March 16 Minneapolis Star Tribune and St. Paul Pioneer Press urging the Legislature to include STDs in health care discussions.

James St. Louis, MD, joined University of Minnesota Children's Hospital, Fairview in January as a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon.

Cheri Schoonveld, MS, certified genetics counselor, Maternal-Fetal Medicine Centers, University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview and Fairview Ridges Hospital, was quoted in a story on msnbc.com March 24 about perinatal hospice.

Yeng Yang, MD, pediatrics, Fairview Maple Grove Medical Center, was interviewed on KARE-TV March 11 about electronic prescriptions.
