BURNSVILLE, Minn. (Feb. 16, 2009) – Burnsville-based Fairview Ridges Hospital announces the opening of a cardiac catheterization lab, also known as a “cath lab.” As the only heart lab serving people living in south metro communities, it allows for better and faster diagnosis and treatment of heart conditions, including blocked arteries that can lead to a heart attack. The cath lab will bring a higher level of heart care to rapidly growing communities such as Burnsville, Lakeville, Rosemount, Savage and Farmington.

The 1,600 square foot heart lab features two rooms—one of which doubles as an operating room. The space is designed for multiple procedures including heart catheterization and vascular services for the lower body. “The multiple-use space helps the hospital be more efficient while providing much needed medical services to the community,” says Beth Krehbiel, president, Fairview Ridges Hospital and Clinics. “Demographic data supports the need for advanced heart care south of the river. By 2013 the number of persons aged 45 and older in our primary service area is expected to grow by 24%. This is the core population that is most commonly affected by heart problems.”

The new cath lab uses state-of-the-art digital technology to diagnose and treat blockages in blood vessels throughout the heart and body. Its addition to the campus complements cardiology services offered onsite, including heart failure and rhythm disorder clinics, stress testing and echocardiograms, preventive cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation.

“Early diagnosis and treatment is essential to preventing heart attacks and saving lives,” says cardiologist Stephen Battista, M.D., Minnesota Heart Clinic—University of Minnesota Physicians. Battista joins six cardiovascular specialists who see patients there five days a week. The new diagnostic lab expands award-winning cardiovascular services offered on the hospital and clinic campus.

Physician partners include Minnesota Heart Clinic-University of Minnesota physicians, Minnesota Vascular Clinic, Suburban Radiology and Twin Cities Heart and Lung. To learn more visit ridges.fairview.org/heart. For an appointment call 952-924-9005.
