Nearly 300 guests gathered in support of Fairview's Youth Grief Services for the One Last Hug event at the Burnsville Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Feb. 27. Watch a short slideshow of the event below.

Hosted by the Minnesota General Office of New York Life, the free event was a benefit for The Moyer Foundation Camp Erin® program in Minnesota—the grief camp offered through Fairview’s Youth Grief Services.

Youth Grief Services offers, free of charge, support groups, education, camp and more to children and families rocked by profound loss.

One Last Hug (…and a few smooches)
Event attendees had the opportunity to view a complimentary private screening of “One Last Hug (…and a few smooches): Three Days at Grief Camp,” a documentary short by award-winning filmmakers that shows how organizations like Fairview are helping children cope with devastating loss.

After the film premiere, past Youth Grief Services participants, Susan and A.J. Spaulding, shared their own grief journey and the ways in which Fairview’s support helped make their healing possible.

“They say that every cloud has a silver lining and, for us, in the wake of the loss of our husband and father, Youth Grief Services was ours,” Susan told audience members.

Donor dollars will be matched
A group of generous donors to Fairview’s Youth Grief Services also stepped forward with an exciting matching gift: All donations made to Youth Grief Services through March 31 will be matched dollar for dollar.

“This is truly an incredible opportunity both for us and for the children and families that we serve,” says Jenny Simmonds, lead program coordinator, Fairview’s Youth Grief Services.

“When we meet this match, we'll be able to add another seven-week support group series so families don’t need to wait as long as six months for the help they need. You can’t imagine the direct positive impact that will have on so many families.”

Special thanks to our matching gift donors
This opportunity was made possible thanks to the following generous donors:
  • Lead donor: Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund
  • Chris and Gary Park
  • Carrousel Travel
  • Anonymous donor
